Botanicals are a constant source of inspiration for us, and they are an integral part of everything we do. As olfactory experts, we love discovering beautiful scents and exploring the rich history and biology within each unique botanical.

In our Botanical Spotlight series, we will delve into the scientific, cultural and olfactory roots of the key botanicals from our fragrance collections.

Neroli oil comes from the vibrant, summery citrus family. In biological terms, it is from the family Rutaceae, genus Citrus and species C. aurantium. The oil itself is incredibly expensive, obtained from an evergreen tree. The beautiful flower petals are steam distilled to extract one of the most expensive oils on the market.

An essence fit for royalty

Neroli oil has an interesting regal history.

Back in the 17th century, a princess of Nerola famously used the bitter orange essential oil, using it to bathe and infuse her clothes. It became popular with nobility and has gained luxurious connotations.

Throughout history, the rich oil has been used in ancient medicine and aromatherapy, with its anti-inflammatory and mood improvement properties.

A rejuvenation powerhouse

In modern cosmetics, health and wellness, neroli oil is a popular inclusion.

When it comes to skincare, neroli can be used to combat acne and blemishes, with its anti-scarring properties. It is known to help the skin regenerate, reducing the appearance of marks and rejuvenating the complexion.

Neroli oil’s fragrance is a beautifully delicate balance of floral and fruity, blending citrus sharpness with flowery soft notes. It is renowned for being a romantic and calming scent, used in aromatherapy to help reduce stress.

In our Sunset in Ibiza™ fragrance, neroli oil is used as a warm heart note, settling between bright mandarin top notes and a grounding cedarwood base to create the essence of a sunny Balearic getaway.
