Gulerodsfrø

Familie: Apiaceae
Slægt: Daucus
Arter: D. carota

The wild carrot plant D.carota bears beautiful lace-like white flowers, and is perhaps better known by the aliases Queen Anne’s lace and Bishop’s lace. Carrot seed essential oil can be produced by steam distilling the seeds of the wild carrot plant, or cold pressing the seeds to produce another totally distinct oil. The cold pressed oil is primarily used in cosmetic products like face creams, because of its rejuvenating and anti-ageing properties.

Both wild carrot and cultivated carrot may also be used to produce another type of oil, simply referred to as carrot oil. Carrot oil is obtained by crushing the plant's roots in the presence of a carrier or base oil, like olive. This effectively infuses or flavours the base oil with carrot material.

Well known in both Ancient Greece and Rome, carrot seed oil was used both medicinally and for soothing the skin. It has well-documented bio-active properties, including being antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Carrot seed oil, perhaps somewhat underrated in the past, is now increasingly used in cosmetic creams and lotions, burners and vaporisers, and as a massage or bath oil.
